Become a Member of Fellowship GREENVILLE

As long as someone has a relationship with God, why is it necessary to have something like church membership?

Fellowship Greenville has a lot of guests and regular attendees. We welcome them with open arms and would never turn them away. But we are looking for more than just the familiarity of faces seen every week. We believe there are at least three good reasons to consider membership.

Membership is biblical.

Membership is practical.

Membership is personally enriching.

What does membership mean practically?

At Fellowship Greenville, members:

• receive the right to vote on matters involving the entire congregation. 
• hold each other accountable to be faithful stewards of life. 
• place themselves under the leadership of the elders and pastors to serve the mission of God here and around the world. 
• support the ministry through their finances, service, and prayers. 
• participate in corporate and personal worship. 
• are given preference when it comes to the church’s ministries and services.
• are eligible to be staff members, elders, deacons, pastors, and community group leaders. 

How does membership happen?

There are some “minimum requirements” for membership in any church—and that includes Fellowship Greenville.

Believe in Jesus Christ—By this, we mean a personal, trusting relationship with him. Before belonging to a local church, you need to consider whether you belong to Jesus.

Attend a baptism class—Just as membership is a public declaration of belonging to a local body of believers, baptism is a public declaration of belonging to Jesus. To help you take your next step, we ask that you attend a baptism class to help bring clarity to what the Bible says about baptism, along with information on how to share your story with others.

Be baptized—Since baptism is publicly saying you belong to Jesus, we believe baptism should happen after someone puts their personal faith in Jesus. Though we only practice baptism by immersion, if you've been baptized by other means after trusting in Jesus, we do not require you to be baptized again.

Attend a membership class—When considering committing yourself to a group of people, it’s good to ask, “What am I committing myself to?” We hope our membership class has helped to answer that question.

Be interviewed by a Pastor or Elder—This gives you and the leadership of Fellowship Greenville a chance to get to know each other. We want to hear your personal story, and we want you to know that we are approachable and value you as an individual. (This step happens at the end of your membership class.)

Sign the membership covenant—By signing the membership covenant, you express your desire to enter into a bond with other believers for mutual growth and service. Our commitment is to love one another as Christ has loved us.
