Scripture: 1 Kings 2:1-10
SERMON SUMMARY
Today, we come to the final message in part two of our “Royalty” series on the life of David. Our approach will be a departure from our regular study method of expositional preaching. Imagine yourself attending David’s funeral. What would a preacher say about the life of David, son of Jesse, Israel’s greatest-ever king? Truly, David is “an enigma wrapped in a riddle”—a terribly flawed “man after God’s own heart.” How are we to make sense of that? I count it a great privilege to have been asked to preach at his funeral, and I’ll do my best to unpack what the Holy Spirit wants us to teach us from his life. Since we all will eventually be the center of attention at a service like this, there’s an important “big idea” that we learn from the life of David that brings the Gospel to bear on how we all live out our relationship with God today.
